WLC Drops Doubleheader To Skidmore In Florida Opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team opened its week at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader against Skidmore. The Warriors dropped both games to the Thoroughbreds by scores of 8-0 and 4-3 at the Terry Park Sports Complex.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (0-4), Skidmore (6-0)
  • Location: Terry Park Sports Complex, Fort Myers, Fla.

  • The Thoroughbreds scored twice in the top of the first inning off two hits and a walk to take an early 2-0 lead over the Warriors. Skidmore added two more runs to its total in the second on three hits as the visiting team held a 4-0 lead.
  • WLC threatened in the fourth inning by putting a pair of runners on base, but the Thoroughbreds escaped the scoring threat by inducing a double play.
  • Skidmore tacked on four runs on two hits to its total in the sixth to account for the remainder of the game one scoring.
  • Seniors Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) and Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) collected the two hits for WLC in the opener. 

  • After stranding runners on base each of the first two innings, the Warriors struck first in the third inning on a two-RBI single from sophomore Foster Engelhardt (North Richland Hills, Texas). 
  • The Thoroughbreds answered with three runs on two hits on their half of the third to grab a one-run lead. 
  • WLC evened the score at 3-3 in the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Enevold that plated freshman Noah Zaccanti (Geneva, Ill.). 
  • Wisconsin Lutheran put a runner on second with nobody out in the seventh, but was unable to manufacture a run.
  • Skidmore loaded the bases in its last half inning, and after a force out, drove in the game-winning run on a single.
  • The Warriors out-hit the Thoroughbreds 9-4 in the nightcap, with Enevold leading the way with three hits. Junior Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.) added two hits for WLC.
  • Freshman Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) struck out six over 6.0 innings in his first collegiate start.
