Danko Delivers Wisconsin Lutheran's First NACC Win

MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Freshman Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) pitched seven strong innings and collected a pair of RBI as the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team picked up its first NACC win of the season on Sunday afternoon in a 6-3 victory over Concordia Chicago. The Cougars earned a split with a 7-4 victory in the nightcap at Kapco Park.

  • The Warriors struck early as the first three batters in the first inning reached base. Senior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) scored the first run for WLC on a groundout and senior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) later came around to score on a wild pitch to give Wisconsin Lutheran a 2-0 lead after the first.
  • The Cougars answered back with a pair of runs in their half of the third inning as they loaded the bases with no outs and scored runs on a sacrifice fly and a RBI groundout but stranded two runners on base.
  • The Green and White regained the lead quickly in the third after Dominick tripled to left field and scored on a balk to give the Warriors a 3-2 advantage.
  • CUC tied the game back up at 3-3 in the fourth inning on a one-out solo home run to left field, but WLC retook the lead as Danko helped his own cause at the plate with two-out, two-run double to score senior Ethan Orcutt (East Dubuque, Ill.) and junior Joseph Cook (Marshall, Wis.).
  • Wisconsin Lutheran added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Danko reached on a Cougars' fielding error to plate Orcutt and extend Wisconsin Lutheran's lead to 6-3.
  • Concordia Chicago brought the tying run to the plate in both the seventh and ninth innings but stranded a pair of runners in each frame as the Green and White secured the 6-3 victory.
  • Danko earned the victory on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits in 7.0 innings. Senior Diego Solares (Huntley, Ill.) picked up his first save of the season in 0.2 innings.
  • Orcutt paced the Warriors' offense with three hits and scored two runs. Danko collected a hit and a pair of RBI at the plate.

  • The Cougars got on the scoreboard first with a sacrifice fly in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • CUC added three runs in the third inning on four hits to extend its lead to 4-0 before the Warriors answered with four two-out runs to tie the game. With the bases loaded and two outs, senior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) was hit by a pitch to score the first run. Senior Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.) then walked before Orcutt plated a pair to even the score at 4-4.
  • Concordia Chicago regained the lead at 5-4 with a two-out RBI single up the middle in the sixth inning.
  • WLC threatened in the bottom half of the seventh inning but stranded a pair of runners, including the tying run at second base.
  • The Cougars added two insurance runs in the eighth inning and their bullpen retired the final seven batters in order to secure the game two win.
  • Enevold and Orcutt each recorded a pair of hits in the contest for the Warriors.
  • Freshman Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis.) threw 1.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen for WLC.
