WLC Fires On All Cylinders In Sweep Of Sabercats

WATERTOWN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team returned to the win column with a pair of non-conference victories over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday afternoon at Washington Park. The Warriors handled the Sabercats by scores of 16-1 and 16-0. Sophomore Jake Sillan (Castle Rock, Colo.) and senior Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) combined for nine hits, 11 RBI, and nine runs over the two-game sweep.

  • The Warriors got the scoring going early in the opener with a pair of runs in the first inning, Senior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) drove a RBI single that plated senior Matthew Schulenburg (Hampshire, Ill.) and freshman Elijah Shevey (Muskego, Wis) for an early 2-0 lead.
  • WLC added its third run the following inning when Sillan scored on a double play to extend its lead.
  • Dominick scored on a RBI single from freshman Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) to take a 4-0 advantage in the third inning.
  • Three costly errors by the Sabercats allowed Sillan, Shevey, Dominick, and Schulenburg to score, and an RBI single by Danko brought in Poblocki giving Wisconsin Lutheran a 9-0 lead through four innings.
  • Two RBI doubles by Dominick and Schulenburg bought in three runs for the Green and White in the fifth as they carried a commanding 12-0 lead.
  • MBU scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth making the score 12-1.
  • Back-to-back solo home runs by junior Joseph Cook (Marshall, Wis.) and Sillan highlighted the sixth inning, and two additional runs scored on a hit by pitch and wild pitch that wrapped up the game one win, 16-1.
  • The Warriors' offense recorded nine hits in the contest and was led by two hits each from Dominick and Danko.

  • The Warriors applied early pressure in the nightcap with a RBI triple from Dominick and a RBI double from Sillan bringing in three runs. An error followed allowing Cook to score for WLC as it took a comfortable 4-0 lead after one inning.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran opened the second in the same fashion with a RBI single from Sillan and a RBI triple from junior Glavine Matthes (Appleton, Wis.) that drove in three more runs making the score 7-0.
  • Dominick started the third with another RBI bringing in sophomore Matt Edwards (Hanover, Minn.). Junior Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.) and senior Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) scored on an error, and Sillan had an RBI single bringing in junior Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) to make the score 11-0.
  • The Warriors went scoreless for two innings before Dominick had a bases-clearing three-RBI double in the top of the sixth sending the score to 14-0.
  • A RBI single from Matthes and a sac fly from sophomore Owen Zaskowski (Slinger, Wis.) brought in the final two runs of the game to close out the 16-0 victory.
  • WLC finished with 11 hits, with Sillan tallying a team-high four hits. Warriors pitchers combined to allow just one hit in game two with six strikeouts.

  • The Warriors host their third straight NACC doubleheader on Saturday when they welcome MSOE (13-12, 8-4 NACC) to Neumann Family Field. First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 12 p.m.
