Baseball Battles Nationally-Ranked Aurora On The Road

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team scored 15 runs on a season-high 19 hits in game one of its doubleheader against 21st-ranked Aurora on Sunday, but couldn't contain the Spartans as they fell 23-15 at Jim Schmid Field at Stuart Sports Complex. The Spartans took the nightcap of the NACC doubleheader 16-1 in seven innings.

  • The Warriors got the scoring going early in the opener with four first-inning runs. Seniors Ryan Dominick (Bartlett, Ill.) and Josh Enevold (Jackson, Wis.) scored on an error and senior Nick Poblocki (Bartlett, Ill.) followed with a two-run homerun for a four-run lead.
  • The Spartans countered WLC's first inning with five runs on just two hits of their own to take a 5-4 lead heading into the second inning. AU added six runs on four hits in its half of the second for an 11-4 lead.
  • Senior Ethan Orcutt's (East Dubuque, Ill.) two-run single in the third inning drove in Dominick and junior Carter Raabe (Mukwonago, Wis.) for an 11-6 deficit.
  • Raabe's two-out single in the fourth plated freshman Tyler Danko (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Wisconsin Lutheran held Aurora scoreless for the second straight inning.
  • The Green and White had their biggest inning of the season to date in the fifth with eight runs on nine hits to jump ahead 15-11. Orcutt led off the inning with a homerun, while Danko, Enevold, Dominick, Raabe, and junior Danny Cain (Jackson, Wis.) all had run-scoring hits for the Warriors in the big frame. 
  • The Spartans scored twice in the fifth to trim their deficit to 15-13. WLC had a chance to tack on more runs in the sixth with three straight singles to start the inning, but AU escaped the jam with three straight strikeouts. 
  • Aurora put together its biggest inning of the game in the seventh with an eight-spot on four hits to take the lead back at 21-15. The Spartans tacked on their final two runs in the eighth for the 23-15 final.
  • The Warriors' offense recorded a season-high 19 hits and was led by four hits from Enevold, three hits and three RBI each from Raabe and Orcutt, and four players from WLC had a pair of hits.

  • The Spartans started game two with a solo homerun to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • After both teams were held scoreless in the second inning, AU scored twice in the third to start a stretch of four straight run-scoring frames.
  • Aurora added two runs in the fourth and nine more in the fifth to take a commanding lead.
  • The Warriors cracked the scoring column in the sixth when Raabe doubled home Dominick for WLC's first run of the game. 
  • The Spartans' final two tallies came in the sixth as the contest ended and six-and-a-half via run-rule.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran registered four hits in the contest and was led by two hits from Enevold, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
