MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College announced today that
Mike Fossum, assistant football coach and director of football operations, is stepping down from his role to pursue other professional opportunities effective June 30, 2025. Fossum departs after an extraordinary 26-year tenure, marking him as the longest-serving coach in the program's history.
"I am thankful to have served the college and football program over the past 26 years in a variety of roles," said Fossum. "What a blessing it has been to work with so many wonderful student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff. Thank you WLC for the opportunity you entrusted me with. I will be forever grateful."
Fossum has served as the team's offensive line coach, mentoring nearly 30 all-conference linemen since the Warriors joined conference play in 2002. His offensive lines have been instrumental in record-breaking performances and standout rushing achievements, including supporting Justin Parbs—the first player in program history to average 100 rushing yards per game—and seven other running backs who have surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards.
"Mike taught and embodied the WLC mission of servant leadership," said Head Coach
Eric Treske. "There is not one aspect of this program and of the lives of each Warrior past and present that he hasn't impacted in a positive way. He helped build this program and each of us Warriors from the ground up and we are forever grateful for his commitment and service."
Prior to his appointment at WLC, Fossum held coaching positions for five seasons at South Dakota State University and his alma mater, St. Olaf College, where he earned all-conference honors twice as an offensive lineman for the Oles. A dedicated mentor both on and off the field, Fossum has been deeply involved in football camps across the Milwaukee area and is an active member of the American and Wisconsin Football Coaches Associations.
A search for his replacement will begin immediately.
