ANGOLA, Ind. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
football team was defeated by the Tri-State University Thunder
30-10 in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game
Saturday afternoon at Shive Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran, who played without six of its defensive
starters from a week ago due to injury, trailed only 3-0 after the
first quarter on a 24-yard Justin Hoover field goal. TSU added a
two-yard scoring run from Sam Hartman for a 10-0 lead with 11:26
left in the second quarter.
Tim Reichelt (Wauwatosa, Wis./Waukesha South) put WLC on the
scoreboard after he connected on a 22-yard field goal with 5:19
left in the second quarter as the Warriors trailed 10-3 at the
half.
Tri-State's Jeff Langley added two second half one-yard
touchdown runs as the Thunder led 24-3 heading into the final
quarter. Wisconsin Lutheran recorded its only touchdown on the day
in the waning moments of the game when T.J. Bodnar (Racine,
Wis./Park) found Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) from
20 yards out for the final 30-10 margin. Bodnar, who threw for 175
yards, completed at least one pass to eight different
receivers.
WLC did not turn the football over at all during the game, while
the defense was able to force two takeaways. Cailen Rock (Shell
Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) led the Warriors defensively with 15 tackles
and a fumble recovery. Jon Jones also intercepted a pass.
Tri-State (5-4, 3-3 MIAA) totaled 230 yards on the ground and
Courtney Pearson, the MIAA's leading tackler, tallied 17
tackles.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-7, 1-5 MIAA) hosts Hope College next
Saturday in its final game of the 2007 season. Kickoff on is
scheduled for 12 p.m. at Raabe Stadium. Hope (5-4, 5-1 MIAA) is
vying for its second straight MIAA championship.
