ST. LOUIS - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's and women's track & field teams traveled to St. Louis
this past weekend to compete in the Washington University
Select.
The throwers of the team were the first to compete as the hammer
throw and javelin took place Friday evening. Freshman Nate
Rosenberg (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) improved his best
javelin throw with a mark of 43.74 meters (143-6 feet) which was
good enough for third place.
Freshman Andrew Loescher (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran), freshman Ben Zietlow (Montello, Wis./Great Plains
Lutheran), and junior Blaine Welch (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) also
placed in the javelin, all breaking the 140-foot mark. Loescher
also placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 12.69 meters
(41-07.75 feet).
Junior captain Rick LaFleur (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake)
improved his school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.81
meters (140-5 feet), which was good for fourth place.
In other men's throwing events, freshman Tyler Schmitz
(Jefferson, Wis./ Jefferson) placed eighth in the discus with a
throw of 34.75 meters (114 feet).
On the women's side of the throwing events, junior captain Emily
Goss (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and sophomore Sarah Hudson
(Monroe, Wis./Monroe) placed eighth in the discus and hammer with
throws of 27.11 meters (88-11 feet) and 30.84 meters (101-2 feet),
respectively.
Junior Sam Sturomski (St. Francis, Wis./St. Francis) showed
improvement in the javelin as she threw a personal best 26.26
meters (86-2 feet) and placed third. Sophomore Laurie Dexter (New
London, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) placed fifth with a mark of 23.03
meters (75-7 feet). Dexter also placed eighth in the pole vault,
clearing 2.67 meters (8-9 feet).
On the track, junior captain Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and freshman Blake Miller (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) took first and third in the 3000 meter
steeplechase with times of 9:52.79 and 10:50.68, respectively.
Junior Matt Moeller (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) placed third in the
400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.86 and eighth in the 110 meter
hurdles with a time of 16.80.
Sophomore Ryan Timm (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.39
seconds.
Senior captain Beth Windschitl (Sleepy Eye, Minn./Minnesota
Valley Lutheran) was the lone female runner to score points for the
Warriors, taking third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time
of 12:31.38.
Overall, the men placed fifth out of 11 teams scoring 57 points.
Illinois College won the meet with 168 points. The women scored 20
points, and took eighth place out of 12 teams. Host Washington
University captured the women's team title with 247.5 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran will host the Warrior Relays next Saturday at
Raabe Stadium. Events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
