DECORAH, Iowa - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
football team was defeated by the Luther College Norse by a final
of 43-21 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Carlson
Stadium.
The Norse gained a 3-0 lead with 7:18 left in the first quarter
on a Seth Streeter 25-yard field goal. The Warriors took the lead
on their next possession when junior quarterback John Bodnar
(Racine, Wis./Park), who started in the place of the injured Zach
Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), hooked up with junior
Dominique Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) for a 34-yard
touchdown.
Derek Leigh helped Luther regain a lead that it wouldn't
relinquish on its next possession when he scampered 32 yards
through the middle of the field for a touchdown. Luther held a 10-7
lead through one quarter of action.
After a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chris Reynolds
to Kris McAllister at the 11:13 mark of the second quarter, Bodnar
found tight end Wyatt Tramburg (Fall River, Wis./Fall River) for a
13-yard touchdown to make the score 16-14 in favor of the Norse.
The hosts scored once more before the half came to an end and built
a 22-14 lead at the break.
Luther opened the second half by scoring three straight
touchdowns to build a 43-14 advantage. Wisconsin Lutheran got on
the scoreboard for the final time with 4:42 left in the game when
senior Ryan Adamovich (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) hauled in a 16-yard
touchdown catch from Bodnar.
Bodnar finished 19-for-37 for 189 yards and three touchdowns in
his first start of the season. Adamovich hauled in seven receptions
for 79 yards and a touchdown. Johnson caught five passes for 71
yards and a score.
Senior defensive lineman Justin Cromas (Greenfield,
Wis./Greenfield) recorded nine tackles to lead the Warriors, who
finished with 238 yards of total offense.
Luther finished with 480 yards of total offense while running
just two more plays than the Warriors. McAllister tallied 128 yards
receiving on three catches. Leigh finished with 93 yards on the
ground and Reynolds completed nine of 20 passes for 256 yards and a
pair of touchdowns. Kyle McGivney recorded a game-high 14
tackles.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2) takes on the College of St. Scholastica
(1-1) next Saturday in Superior, Wis., for its final non-conference
game. Kickoff between the Warriors and Saints is scheduled for 1
p.m. at Ole Haugsrud Stadium on UW-Superior's campus.
