NEW BERLIN, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
opened its 2010 men's tennis season by falling to the Marian
University Sabres 9-0 on Thursday in a Northern Athletics
Conference dual match at the Princeton Club.
Marian (2-5, 1-0 NAC) won all six singles flights and also swept
the three flights in doubles play to defeat the Warriors by a score
of 9-0.
Junior Alex Allister (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) opened
at No. 1 singles by falling 6-1, 7-5 to Jory Lawson. The Sabres'
Lucas Nieman defeated senior Steve Carran (Beaver Dam, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, junior
Mike Reimer (Sheboygan, Wis./South) dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to
Kyle Ohland. MU's Sam Cripe claimed a 3-6, 6-2, 14-12 victory over
senior Joseph Workman (McLean, Va./Langley) at No. 4 singles, while
senior Jon Jossart (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was
upended at No. 5 singles 3-6, 7-5, 10-8 by Andrew Bales. Senior
Trevor Zarnstorff (Anchorage, Alaska/Evergreen Lutheran) rounded
out singles action at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Luis
Cortes.
In doubles action, Allister and Reimer opened at No. 1 with an
8-1 loss Nieman and Ohland. At No. 2, Marian's Cripe and Bales
topped the tandem of Carran and Workman, 8-2. Jossart teamed with
junior Jonathan Fricke (Baraboo, Wis./Luther Preparatory) at No. 3
and also fell 8-2 to Lawson and Cortes.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1, 0-1 NAC) will return to the courts next
Wednesday, April 14 with a NAC dual match against MSOE at McKinley
Marina Courts at 4 p.m.
