NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's tennis team opened its 2011 season Saturday by
falling to the Edgewood College Eagles (2-13, 1-1 NAC) 9-0 in a
Northern Athletics Conference dual match at the Princeton Club. The
Warriors first match of the day against Marian University was
postponed due to weather.
Edgewood claimed victories over WLC in every flight, including
three by default. EC's Cody Strebig defeated WLC's Mike Reimer
(Sheboygan, Wis./South) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. David Parez
(Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) fell to Tim Morgan at No. 2 singles,
6-0, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Matt Pautz (Two Rivers, Wis./Manitowoc
Lutheran) was topped by Clint Reed, 6-0, 6-0. Aaron Vanderhyde
(Aurora, Colo./Homeschooled) was knocked off by Vince Jankiewicz,
6-0, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 4. Edgeweood won matches at No. 5 and No. 6
singles by default.
In doubles action, Reimer and Parez were defeated at No. 1, 8-1.
At No. 2, Pautz and Vanderhyde also fell 8-1. EC also won the third
doubles match by default.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1, 0-1 NAC) returns to the courts next
Saturday, April 9 hosting Dominican University (9 a.m.) and
Concordia University Chicago (2 p.m.) on Parents' Day at the
Princeton Club.
