Warriors Cruise Past Crusaders, 48-0

Box Score Box score

WATERTOWN, Wis.- The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team gained 550 yards of total offense as they cruised past Maranatha 48-0 Saturday afternoon at Maranatha Field.

The Warriors wasted little time getting on the board as they scored with 9:52 remaining in the opening quarter when Taylor Pelot (Fond du Lac, Wis./Campbellsport) punched one in from one-yard out giving WLC a 7-0 lead. Pelot's touchdown capped off an 8-play, 57-yard scoring drive for Wisconsin Lutheran.

The Warriors added two more scores in the first quarter, the next coming with 7:36 remaining when Zach Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) connected with Josh Stodola (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) for a 61-yard touchdown. The touchdown catch gave Stodola both the all-time career record (21) and tied the single season record (10) for touchdown catches. Shaw then found Caleb Wolf (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) for a 44-yard touchdown pass with 3:04 remaining for a 21-0 WLC lead after the first 15 minutes of play.

Wisconsin Lutheran made the score 27-0 in the third quarter when Shaw threw his third touchdown pass of the game, this time a 13-yarder to Travis Turnquist (Madison, Wis./East), the first of his career.

The Warriors added two touchdowns in the third quarter, both coming from running back Donavin Tucker (Brookfield, Wis./East). Tucker broke one loose for 60 yards with 12:48 left, and then ran another in from 20 yards out just 2:31 later for the 41-0 lead.

WLC added a late touchdown in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard run from Drew Davis (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) making the final score 48-0 in favor of Wisconsin Lutheran. The TD was Davis' first as a Warrior.

The Warriors dominated from start to finish as they outgained Maranatha 550-57 on the afternoon. The tough WLC pass defense lived up to its billing as they allowed just six yards passing, a program record.

Shaw finished the game 13-for-22 for 253 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran offensive attack. Stodola and Wolf each caught four passes for 108 and 75 yards, respectively, while Tucker and Davis added 80 and 62 yards on the ground.

Defensively, WLC picked off four passes on the day as Jason Kramer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), Jestin Heimbruch (Manawa, Wis./Little Wolf), Sam Dunham (Winneconne, Wis./Winneconne), and Aaron Allister (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) each recorded an interception. Heimbruch and Cody Thurber (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake) also recovered fumbles for WLC.

Maranatha (0-8, 0-5 NAC) was led by Ethan Kennon and Ethan Lane as the duo recorded 12 and 11 tackles, respectively. Lane also added a sack for the Crusaders.

Wisconsin Lutheran (6-2, 4-1 NAC), which tied its best start after eight games, returns to action next week when it hosts Rockford (2-6, 1-4 NAC) in the home finale at Raabe Stadium. The game, which will be Senior Day, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
