DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's tennis team rolled to a pair of dual match wins on Saturday
as they defeated host Dubuque 7-2 and then swept Monmouth (Ill.)
9-0 at the Frank Farber Tennis Courts.
In the first match against the Spartans, Wisconsin Lutheran swept
the doubles matches while picking up four of six wins in singles
play to gain the 7-2 win. The #1 doubles team of Kaitlyn Strehlow
(Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Kathryn Hendee
(Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) defeated Dubuque's #1 team 8-4, while the
#2 team of Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove)
and Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) picked
up an 8-5 win.
Rounding out the sweep in doubles play for Wisconsin Lutheran was
Lindsay Gauger (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and Stephanie Gengler
(Slinger, Wis./Slinger) as the #3 doubles team recorded the victory
over the Spartans #3 team of Heather Watson and Jenine Wagner.
The Warriors also controlled the singles matches as they won four
of the six flights, led at #1 singles as Strehlow rolled to a 6-1,
6-0 win over Lauren Clausen of Dubuque. Pearson and Strangstalien
won at #3 and #4 singles, respectively, as Pearson recorded a 6-2,
6-4 win, while Strangstalien notched a 6-3, 6-0 victory. The final
win for WLC came at #5 singles as Gengler downed UD's Stephanie
LoCasto, 6-4, 6-2.
In the second match of the day, WLC won all seven of its matches
and picked up two more wins via forfeit as it cruised to a 9-0
victory over Monmouth (Ill.). Strehlow again led the way at #1
singles winning 8-1 over Ashley Reynoso, while Pearson won at #2
singles 8-2. Strangstalien kept rolling with an 8-2 win at #3
singles while Gauger was dominant in her 8-0 win at #4 singles.
Stephanie Kudek (Green Bay, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) rounded out
the Warriors singles wins with a convincing 8-1 victory at #5
singles.
The #1 (Strehlow and Hendee) and #2 (Pearson and Strangstalien)
doubles teams kept rolling for the Warriors in the second match as
well as the two teams had little difficulty en route to their 8-3
and 8-0 wins, respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-9) will have nearly a month off before
returning to the courts on Saturday, April 21. The Warriors will
face off against Beloit and an opponent to be determined at the
Strong Complex Courts in Beloit, Wis.
