Warriors fall in season opener to Eagles

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team began its 2012 season with a 7-2 loss to Edgewood (2-15, 1-1 NAC) on Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference dual match at Rennebohm Park. The Warriors' first scheduled match of the day at Marian was postponed.

Freshman Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) made an impressive debut for the Warriors at #1 singles as he downed Edgewood's Cody Strebig, 6-1, 6-1.

WLC received its other win from Aaron Roesler (Watertown, Wis./Luther Preparatory) as he netted a win at #6 singles. The freshman was victorious over Eric Gavinski, 6-3, 6-4.

The Warriors fell in their other four singles matches and were swept in the three doubles matches as Edgewood came away with the 7-2 win.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1, 0-1 NAC) returns to action April 4 when it visits Carroll for a non-conference dual match against the Pioneers. Match play at the Kilgour-Trailblazer Tennis Center in Waukesha, Wis. is set to begin at 4 p.m.
