Warriors drop closely-contested match with Sabres

The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team dropped a closely-contested Northern Athletics Conference dual match with Marian on Wednesday afternoon as the Sabres edged WLC 5-4 at Buttermilk Creek Park in Fond du Lac, Wis.

The Warriors and Sabres split the singles matches 3-3 as Wisconsin Lutheran recorded wins at #1, #4 and #6 singles. Freshman Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the way at #1 singles as he picked up a win over the Sabres' Jory Lawson, 6-4, 6-2.

Also gaining a win in singles play was freshman Adam Breister (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran). Breister downed Andrew Bale of MU, 6-4, 6-4. Picking up the final win in singles play for WLC was sophomore Matthew Rocque, (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), who defeated Mike Keller in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 10-8.

Doubles play saw two of three matches go in favor of the host Sabres (2-6, 2-5 NAC) as Wisconsin Lutheran was only able to pick up a win at #2 doubles. It was the duo of David Parez (Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) and Luke Schroeder (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) that picked up the doubles win for WLC as they netted an 8-5 win over Joseph Bertram and Andrew Bales. Both the #1 and #3 Warriors doubles teams lost 8-5.

Wisconsin Lutheran (1-8, 1-7 NAC) will close out the dual match portion of its schedule on Friday when it hosts Lakeland (0-6, 0-6 NAC) at the Princeton Club. The NAC dual match between the Warriors and Muskies begins at 4 p.m.
