NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's tennis team fell to Saint Mary's (Minn.), 9-0, in its
season-opening dual Friday afternoon at Moorland Park Tennis Center
in New Berlin, Wis.
WLC battled hard in all three doubles matches to open
competition, but was unable to gain a victory as Saint Mary's
started the day ahead 3-0. The closest doubles match came at #3
where the Warriors duo of junior Matthew Rocque (Green Bay,
Wis./Bay Port) and sophomore Jeremy Vanderhyde (Aurora, Colo./Rocky
Mountain Lutheran) fell 8-4.
Singles play saw the Cardinals win all six matches en route to
the 9-0 sweep. Sophomore Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) battled at #1 singles, losing the first set 7-5 against
the Cardinals #1 player, Sam Huff. Huff went on to win the second
set 6-2 over Johnson.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1) is off until March 2 when it plays a
pair of non-conference dual matches at the Frank Farber Tennis
Courts in Dubuque, Iowa. The Warriors will face off against Dubuque
(1-1) and Cornell (0-0), playing the Spartans at 9 a.m. and Rams at
3 p.m.
