ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team fell 8-1 to Division I Chicago State Thursday during its spring trip to Florida.
In No. 1 doubles, the duo of Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was unable to defeat the Cougars' (3-14) Sergio Muresan and Mario Noboa, falling 8-1. The Warriors could not come out ahead in either of the two remaining doubles matches.
Johnson picked up WLC's lone win at No. 1 singles, defeating Uros Pajic 6-3, 6-1. Ryan Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) was handed a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 2, while Birner took a 6-0, 6-0 defeat at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) fell 6-2, 6-1; Adam Briester (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5; and at No. 6, David Parez (Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) was defeated 6-0, 6-0.
The Warriors (1-6) play their final two Florida matches tomorrow against Penn St.-Berks (1-2) at 7 a.m. CST and Western New England (1-1) at 4 p.m. CST.
