NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team only lost 10 combined games and won every singles match in straight sets in a commanding 9-0 sweep of Lakeland Thursday afternoon at Princeton Club.
The Warriors (5-8, 2-1 NACC) dropped just one game to the Muskies (1-4, 1-3 NACC) in doubles play, as Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) defeated Jake Halverson and Greg Boknevitz 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) and Ryan Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) and No. 3 doubles team of Adam Breister (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) and Jeremy Vanderhyde (Aurora, Colo./Rocky Mountain Lutheran) each earned 8-0 sweeps in their matches.
Johnson cruised past Halverson 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Ryan Sallmann (6-0, 6-2), Birner (6-0, 6-1), Derek Sallmann (6-0, 6-0), Breister (6-1, 6-2), and Vanderhyde (6-0, 6-2) all claimed victories at No. 2 through No. 6 singles, respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran will seek its third straight victory Sunday at 9 a.m. when it meets Marian (0-2, 0-2 NACC) at Center Court Tennis Club in Fond du Lac.
