NEW BERLIN, Wis. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team had its five-match winning streak come to an end late Wednesday night by three-time defending conference champion Concordia Wisconsin, 7-2, at the Princeton Club.
The Falcons (10-12, 5-2 NACC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play by winning all three flights. WLC's No. 1 and No. 2 teams were narrowly defeated 8-6 and 9-7, respectively. CUW took the third flight, 8-2.
Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) started singles play strong for the Warriors with a three-set win (3-6, 7-6, 10-7) over Russell Johnson at No. 1. Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) collected a 6-2, 6-1 win over Garrett Wells at No. 4. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they came up on the short end of a trio of three-set decisions in singles play. Ryan Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) fell 7-6, 0-6, 7-5 at No. 2, Adam Breister (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) was defeated 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5, and Jeremy Vanderhyde (Aurora, Colo./Rocky Mountain Lutheran) dropped a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 match at No. 6 singles.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-9, 5-2 NACC) plays its final two NACC regular season matches Saturday against Aurora (6-4, 6-1 NACC) and Rockford (0-7, 0-7 NACC) beginning at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Princeton Club in New Berlin.
