MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team won doubles play 2-1 and split its singles matches 3-3 to defeat MSOE 5-4 and claim its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory of the season Wednesday afternoon at McKinley Courts.
The Warriors' (4-8, 1-1 NACC) No. 1 doubles team of Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) defeated the Raiders' (3-9, 1-1 NACC) Eric Klamrowski and David Gorodetsky 8-6. Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) and Ryan Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) also claimed an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles over Zachary Dam and Matt Slaughter.
Johnson swept past Klamrowksi 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Derek Sallmann also picked up his second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Reekah Delfanian at No. 4 singles. Jeremy Vanderhyde (Aurora, Colo./Rocky Mountain Lutheran) rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Matt Slaughter at No. 6 singles. Ryan Sallmann dropped a hard-fought 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 match to Dam at No. 2 singles.
WLC hosts Lakeland (1-2, 1-1 NACC) in another NACC matchup Thursday at 4 p.m. at Princeton Club in New Berlin.
