NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team dropped a non-conference dual match to visiting Lawrence 8-1 Friday night at Moorland Park Tennis Center. In defeat, the Warriors fell to 0-5 overall while the Vikings improved to 3-1.
LU opened doubles play with an 8-2 win at No. 1. The Vikings then took both matches at No. 2 and No. 3 by identical finals of 8-4.
Lee Johnson (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) improved to 3-2 on the season after he registered WLC's lone win of the night by defeating David Jumes 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 at No. 1 singles. Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) each suffered hard-fought defeats as they fell 6-4, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
The Warriors will take some time off before returning to the courts March 22 for a pair of non-conference matches against Cornell (0-2) and Loras (0-4) in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
