Men's Tennis Tops Lakeland In Final Home Match

NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team topped Lakeland 7-2 in its final regular season home match on Wednesday night at the Princeton Club. With the win, the Warriors evened their NACC record to 3-3 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Wisconsin Lutheran rolled through doubles play with three wins. The No. 1 team of Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis.West) and Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) won 8-6, Ben Wordell (Lake Mills, Wis./Christian Academy Japan) and Ryan Eastman (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) were 8-4 winners at No. 2, and John Lewinski (Streamwood, Ill./Walther Lutheran) and Tristen Seymour rounded out doubles action with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
• The Warriors then coasted to victories at No. 1 through No. 4 singles to take command and win the match going away. Sallmann was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 1, while Birner followed at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Wordell swept his match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and Eastman collected a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Lakeland won its only two matches of the night at No. 5 and No. 6.
• Both Sallmann and Birner improved their NACC singles records to 4-2, with Sallmann winning his fourth straight match.
• The Warriors came one step closer to clinching a conference tournament berth for the fourth straight season.

• Wisconsin Lutheran concludes its regular season with a pair of road matches in suburban Chicago on Saturday. The Warriors take on Dominican (4-7, 4-2 NACC) at 10:00 a.m. and Concordia Chicago (1-7, 1-5 NACC) at 2:00 p.m. WLC can clinch a spot in the conference tournament with one win on Saturday.
