Men's Tennis Tops Aurora For First NACC Win

NEW BERLIN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team battled back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to defeat Aurora 6-3 on Saturday evening and earn its first NACC victory of the season at the Princeton Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Warriors dropped two tightly-contested matches to open doubles play by 8-6 and 9-8 scores. WLC's No. 3 team of Cedric Guichard (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) and Ryan Eastman (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) doubled up AU's No. 3 team by an 8-4 final for its first win of the match.
• The Warriors regained control quickly once singles play began, winning five of six singles flights in straight sets. 
• Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 1. Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) claimed a 6-0, 7-6 win at No. 2, and Ben Wordell (Lake Mills, Wis./Christian Academy Japan) won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. 
• Paul Fitzgerald (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and Eastman finished off the match by winning at No. 4 and No. 6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-4, respectively.

• The Warriors will take on Edgewood (5-9, 0-0 NACC) and Marian (0-4, 0-0 NACC) tomorrow at Premier Tennis & Fitness in Janesville. The Warriors' match against the Eagles will start at 8:45 a.m. while the match with the Sabres starts at 3:00 p.m.
