Warriors Advance To NACC Semifinal With Win Over Stars

WAUWATOSA, Wis. - Fourth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College advanced to the 2016 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's Tennis Tournament semifinal following a 5-1 win over fifth-seeded Dominican on Tuesday night at Hart Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Warriors opened doubles competition with a trio of close wins to jump out to a commanding 3-0 lead.
• Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) and Zach Birner (Neenah, Wis./Luther Preparatory) collected a close 9-7 win at No. 1 over the Stars' John Mysz and Camden Knights.
• At No. 2, Ben Wordell (Lake Mills, Wis./Christian Academy Japan) and Cedric Guichard (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) earned an 8-5 win over DU's Tarik Abdullah and Hector Ramirez.
• The No. 3 team of Paul Fitzgerald (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and Ryan Eastman (Brookfield, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) capped off doubles play with a 9-8 win over Frank Lally and Chandler Allen.
• WLC needed to win just two singles matches to come away with a win.
• Sallmann defeated Quinn Porter 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and Birner was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2 over Mysz.
• DU won its only match 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and the remaining singles matches at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 went unfinished as the contest was already decided.

• Wisconsin Lutheran advances to Sunday's NACC Tournament semifinal where it will face top-seeded Edgewood (13-10, 8-0 NACC) at 11:00 a.m. at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. The Eagles defeated the Warriors 9-0 in their first matchup of the season on April 10.
