Warriors Fall Against Storm, Norse In Non-Conference Action

DECORAH, Iowa (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team returned to Iowa for the second straight week to face a pair of Iowa Conference opponents in non-conference action. The Warriors were defeated by Simpson, 8-1, and host Luther, 9-0, on Saturday inside the Sports and Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Storm won all three doubles matches over the Warriors in their first match of the afternoon, but not before Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) and Jon Wordell (Mequon, Wis./Christian Academy in Japan) put up a hard-fought battle at No. 1 but came up short 8-5.
  • Sallmann picked up his first win of the season at No. 1 singles, defeating Simpson's Adam Wieser 6-4, 6-3. Jon Wordell provided another close contest at No. 3, but came up short 6-3, 6-4.
  • The Norse swept the Warriors in the nightcap, with Sallmann and Wordell picking up two points at No. 1 doubles. Luther captured four of six singles matches in straight sets, the other two by default, and did not allow more than two points in any set.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • The Warriors matched up with the Storm for the second straight season, while the meeting with the Norse was their first ever.

UP NEXT

  • The Warriors play their first home matches of the season next Saturday against Saint Mary's (Minn.) (1-2) and Carroll (0-2) at Moorland Park Tennis Center in New Berlin. The match against the Cardinals begins at 3:00 p.m., while the Pioneers follow at 6:00 p.m.
