Warriors Blank Cougars For Second NACC Win

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team celebrated Parents' Day on Saturday by earning its second straight conference split, defeating Concordia Chicago 9-0 after dropping a 7-2 contest to Dominican at the Princeton Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jonathan Wordell (Mequon, Wis./Christian Academy in Japan) and Matt Plaski (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) earned the only win for WLC in doubles play, 8-4, against Dominican's No. 2 team in their first match.  
• Derek Sallmann (Waukesha, Wis./West) earned his seventh win of the season in singles play, 7-6, 6-1. The Stars went on to win the last five matches of the day to close out their victory. Jake Larson (McHenry, Ill./Faith Lutheran) lost a narrow defeat in three sets at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6).
• The Warriors opened their match with the Cougars by sweeping all three flights of doubles play. Sallmann and Ben Wordell (Mequon, Wis./Christian Academy in Japan) were 8-0 winners at No. 1 doubles, Plaski and Jonathan Wordell earned their second victory of the day by an 8-6 decision, and Larson and David Ullerich (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) were winners by default at the third position.
• Sallmann, Plaski, Ullerich, and Larson each won their singles matches in straight sets. Jonathan Wordell won No. 2 singles via a third set tie-breaker. Ben Wordell also won by default at No. 6.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Warriors won their fifth straight match over CUC and their second straight by a 9-0 score.

UP NEXT

• The Warriors conclude their regular season next Saturday with NACC matches against Concordia Wisconsin (14-5, 3-0 NACC) and Lakeland (0-7, 0-3 NACC). First serve against CUW is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Mequon. The Falcons won last year's battle, 8-1, over WLC, but the Warriors defeated Lakeland, 7-2.
