Men's Tennis Tops Aurora, 7-2, For First Win

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team swept through doubles play and won four singles matches en route to a 7-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Aurora Saturday morning at Elite Sports Club in Brookfield. It marked the Warriors' first win of the 2018 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors swept the Spartans in doubles play, picking up a trio of narrow wins. Ben Wordell (Mequon, Wis.) and Jeremy Ryno (Grayslake, Ill.) won at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Jonny Wordell (Mequon, Wis.) and David Ullerich (Milwaukee, Wis.) held on for a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles, and Matt Plaski (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Grant Fleming (Kaukauna, Wis.) also picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran won four of six singles flights, as Ben Wordell won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1, Johnny Wordell won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2, Plaski picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4, and Ullerich came back to win at No. 5 in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Warriors were victorious for the third time in their last four matches over the Spartans, including five straight wins at home.
  • The doubles duos of Ben Wordell and Ryno and Jonny Wordell and Ullerich each won for the second time this season.
