WLC Drops Final NACC Road Match To CUC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team dropped its final NACC road match of the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 for the second consecutive match to the Concordia Chicago Cougars at Concordia Stadium.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (3-11-1, 2-7-1 NACC), Concordia Chicago (4-8-2, 4-4-2 NACC)
• Location: Concordia Stadium, River Forest, Ill.

• The Cougars cracked the scoring column first when their second shot on goal in the 14th minute landed in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
• Junior Katie Wasiak (Muskego, Wis.) and senior Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) placed shots on frame for the Warriors in the 17th, 23rd, and 30th minute, but all were stopped.
• Junior Elena Velasquez (Milwaukee, Wis.) knotted the score at 1-1 in the 42nd minute of the first half, and the contest went into halftime tied one apiece.
• CUC connected on the eventual game-winning score in the 59th minute of the second half to go in front 2-1.
• Wasiak had three chances for the equalizer for WLC in the final four minutes of the match, but all three were saved by Concordia Chicago's keeper.
• Wasiak led all players with seven shots in the game, four of which were on frame. Velasquez's only shot on goal was good for her third score of the season.
• Sophomore Sierra Kannas (Watertown, S.D.) collected eight saves in the match.
