Scarlet Hawks Edge Wisconsin Lutheran, 5-4

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team fell by just one match to visiting Illinois Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors were edged 5-4 to the Scarlet Hawks at the Princeton Club. The four match wins are the most for WLC against IIT in their brief five-match series history.

• The Warriors took two of three doubles flights from Illinois Tech to begin play. The No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) and Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) won 8-7 for their seventh win of the year, and freshmen Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) and Alex Sturm (Hartland, Wis.) picked up an 8-2 victory at No. 3 to improve to 7-1 on the season.
• Illinois Tech claimed the first two singles matches before freshman Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) picked up a three-set win at No. 3, her sixth of the rookie campaign, by a score of 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
• The Scarlet Hawks won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles but freshman Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4, also for her seventh win of the year.

• Morgan Colbert and Kylie Hance won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles and Colbert won her singles match 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 position for IIT.

• The Warriors will face MSOE (4-4, 3-1 NACC) in a conference match on Sunday. Opening serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Elite Sports Club-North Shore in Glendale.
