Men's Tennis Tops Lakeland In NACC Tournament Opener

KOHLER, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The fifth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College men's tennis team avenged an earlier season loss to Lakeland by defeating the fourth-seeded Muskies 5-3 in a NACC Tournament First Round match on Monday at the Sports Core. It marked the Warriors' third straight win and their first NACC Tournament victory since 2016.

  • The Warriors took two of the three doubles matches from the Muskies for an early lead. Freshmen Jon Kannenberg (Butler, Wis.) and Bryce Halvorsen (Fredonia, Wis.) teamed up at No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win. Sophomores Josh Hennen (Slinger, Wis.) and Stu Woller (Mount Horeb, Wis.) then picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. It was the fourth win of the season for both doubles teams.
  • After dropping the opening two singles flights, WLC claimed three wins to clinch the match. Kannenberg was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 3, freshman Quinn Wedel (Wauwatosa, Wis.) earned a three-set 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4, and Hennen posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6. 
  • The match at No. 5 singles went unfinished as Wisconsin Lutheran won the match after falling 6-3 to Lakeland in its regular season meeting.

  • Lakeland's three wins came from Nick Larson and Jacob Larson at No. 1 and No. 2 singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores. They also teamed at No. 1 doubles for an 8-3 win.

  • The Warriors advance to Thursday's NACC Tournament Semifinal where they will face top-seeded conference champion Illinois Tech (5-0, 5-0 NACC) in Chicago. Match time and location will be announced when it becomes available.
