Box Score COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College opened its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday with its first sweep of the season, 9-0, over Concordia Chicago at Score Tennis & Fitness.
The Warriors (4-9, 1-0 NACC), who defeated the Cougars (0-7, 0-1 NACC) for the ninth straight time in the series, snapped a brief two-match losing streak with the conference-opening victory.
WLC swept through doubles play with ease, winning all three matches by an 8-0 result. Sophomore
Aidan Newberg (Manitowoc, Wis.) and freshman
Zadic Torline (Shawnee, Kan.) teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles. Juniors
Jon Kannenberg (Butler, Wis.) and
Bryce Halvorsen (Kewaskum, Wis.) were winners at No. 2 doubles, and freshman
Connor Heezen (Pulaski, Wis.) and senior
Josh Hennen (Slinger, Wis.) partnered to win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Wisconsin Lutheran won all six flights in straight sets. Newberg (6-0, 6-1), Kannenberg (6-0, 6-2), Torline (6-1, 6-0), Halvorsen (6-1, 6-2), Hennen (6-3, 6-1), and junior
Matt Bass (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) (6-1, 6-1) all picked up wins for the Warriors.
WLC faces a quick turnaround for its second NACC match of the season tomorrow, traveling to Mequon for an 8 a.m. matchup against Concordia Wisconsin (2-9, 0-0 NACC) at Elite Sports Club.
