Box Score MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) -Â Wisconsin Lutheran College earned its first-ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday. The Warriors snapped a seven-match losing streak to the Falcons with a 5-4 win at Elite Sports Club.
WLC's (5-9, 2-0 NACC) only victory in the previous 14 meetings against CUW (2-10, 0-1 NACC) came in the 2014 NACC Tournament Final.
Wisconsin Lutheran picked up a pair of wins in doubles play to take a 2-1 lead over Concordia Wisconsin. Juniors
Jon Kannenberg (Butler, Wis.) and
Bryce Halvorsen (Kewaskum, Wis.) teamed for an 8-3 victory at No. 2. Freshman
Connor Heezen (Pulaski, Wis.) and senior
Josh Hennen (Slinger, Wis.) partnered at No. 3 for an 8-4 triumph.
Singles play saw the Falcons win matches at the first three positions in straight sets. The Warriors' first win in singles action came at No. 5 where Hennen picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Halvorsen notched a three-set triumph at No. 4 by scores of 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-3. After CUW won in three sets at No. 1, WLC junior
Matt Bass (Village of Lakewood, Ill.) secured a 6-2, 6-1Â victory at No. 6 for the clinching victory.
Wisconsin Lutheran is idle until next Sunday, March 26 when its hosts Marian (0-2, 0-2 NACC) at 12:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Jackson.
