MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team won its first game of the 2010 season in a big way Thursday, erupting for 14 goals to shutout the Finlandia University Lions in a non-conference clash at Warrior Field.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which received goals from eight different players, bolted to a 6-0 halftime lead. Cameron Teske (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran), Florin Maduta (Waterford, Wis./Waterford), Trevor Schwartz (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran), Jake Parnau (Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale) and Brett Maxwell (Hobart, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) each netted first-half scores for the Warriors. WLC out-shot the Lions 25-1 in the opening half.

The second half saw the Warriors add eight more scores to their total as they attempted 31 shots while keeping Finlandia off the shot chart. Maduta, Teske, Andre Kaul (West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale), Youri Daniel (Fort Pierce, Fla./Central) and James Sather (Milwaukee, Wis./Nathan Hale) added tallies in the second period for WLC.

Parnau and Teske led the way for the Warriors with three goals apiece, while Parnau and Sather finished tied with a team-high nine of WLC's 56 shots. Parnau and Derrick Bordeleau (Hobart, Wis./N.E.W. Lutheran) recorded three assists each. Wisconsin Lutheran assisted on all but two of its 14 goals.

Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) started the opening 27:30 in the net for the Warriors, facing the only Lions shot. Goalkeepers Jon Stewart (Waukesha, Wis./South), Tony Bink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and Brian Benn (Milwaukee, Wis./Heritage Christian) also split time in goal to preserve the shutout.

After two consecutive home games, Wisconsin Lutheran (1-8-1, 0-1 NAC) travels to Watertown, Wis., Saturday for its second NAC contest of the season against Maranatha Baptist Bible College (4-1-1, 0-1-1 NAC). Game time between the Warriors and Crusaders is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Maranatha Field.
