MILWAUKEE - The University of
Wisconsin-Platteville (1-1) was led by two of its seniors, Mitch
Cornelius and B.J. Gottschlich, in its 3-0 win over host Wisconsin
Lutheran College on Friday night in the 2010 Warrior Cup at Warrior
Field.
Cornelius registered the first goal of the night in the 16th
minute from an assist by Gottschlich to put the Pioneers up 1-0. In
the 32nd minute, Cornelius bounced one past the reach of WLC senior
goalkeeper Chris Lorig (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) to give the
Pioneers a 2-0 halftime lead.
Lorig made 12 saves in the first half as Platteville outshot the
Warriors, 20-1.
Gottschlich added UW-P's final goal of the night at 59:50 past
Warriors sophomore goalkeeper Tony Bink (Menomonee Falls,
Wis./Menomonee Falls). Bink made four saves in the second half for
the Warriors, who were outshot by a slim 5-3 margin.
The Warriors' best opportunity came when freshman Andre Kaul
(West Allis, Wis./Nathan Hale) grazed a free kick off of the post
in the second half.
Gottschlich posted a game-high eight shots for the Pioneers,
while goalkeeper Jared Kuehl earned the shutout with one save.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2) looks to earn its first win of the
young season Saturday night when it hosts Northland International
University (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. in its final game of the 2010 Warrior
Cup at Warrior Field.
