Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss Sunday At Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team dropped its first match of the 2019 season 3-0 in a non-conference match against the Hamline Pipers on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Paterson Field.

  • Final Score: Hamline 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 0

  • Location: Paterson Field, St. Paul, Minn.

  • The Warriors and Pipers traded scoring chances in the first half, but neither team could find the net. WLC junior goalkeeper Erek Lehnen (Fort Myers, Fla.) made three first-half saves to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Pipers broke the scoreless tie with a goal 26 seconds into the second half as Logan Weller scored his fourth goal of the season. Lay Wah and Nathan Kange assisted on the play.
  • Six minutes later, Self El-Fatairy found the back of the net as a header off a corner kick from Jack Reddan that beat Lehnen.
  • The Pipers struck quickly again, as Ryan Pyle scored an unassisted goal from just outside the box in the 55th minute to extend the lead to 3-0.

  • The Warriors attempted 10 shots, with juniors Luke Harty (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and Jacob Bruecker (Sheboygan, Wis.) credited with the teams' two shots on target.
  • Lehnen finished with five saves on eight shots faced. It was the second game of the season with at least five saves for Lehnen.

  • Hamline attempted 16 shots, with half ending up on goal. Eight different Pipers recorded a shot on target.
  • Malachy Zamacona stopped both shots he faced for his first career collegiate shutout.

  • The Warriors return home next Saturday for a non-conference match against Martin Luther (1-2-1) at 3:00 p.m. WLC has won the last five meetings against the Knights. Live stats and video will be available at WLCSports.com.
