WLC Drops First Home Match Of Spring Season

JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team hosted Loras in its first home match of the spring season on Sunday at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club. The Warriors dropped a 7-2 decision to the Duhawks in non-conference action.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (9-7), Loras (9-5)
• Location: Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club, Jackson, Wis.

• The Warriors dropped two doubles matches against the Duhawks, but sophomore Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and freshman Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) were winners at No. 2 by a score of 8-2 for their team-leading seventh win of the year. WLC's No. 1 team of sophomores Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) and Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) were narrowly defeated 8-6.
• Loras won five of the six flights of singles, including four in straight sets. Sophomore Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) earned a three-set victory at No. 5 by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 to improve to 2-0. Schmidt came up on the short end of a three-set setback at No. 4 by a score of 6-3, 0-6, 10-3.

• The Warriors travel to Dubuque, Iowa next Saturday, March 12 for two non-conference matches against Dubuque (2-13) and Grand View (8-5) at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
