Schmidt Shatters Hammer Throw Record At St. Norbert

Warriors place eighth at final regular season meet

DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College placed eighth at the St. Norbert Invitational on Saturday at Donald J. Schneider Stadium.

The Warriors recorded several top-eight finishes on the day, highlighted by senior Leah Schmidt (Bonduel, Wis.), who broke her own school record in the Hammer with a toss of 44.26m to place seventh. Schmidt's mark surpassed her previous record of 43.02m set at the 2025 Marquette Invitational and currently ranks third in the NACC this season.

In distance events, senior Sylvia Walentowski (Neenah, Wis.) posted a season-best time of 13:58.97 to finish seventh in the 3000m Steeplechase, while freshman Maddie Metz (Chino Valley, Ariz.) recorded a personal-best 11:20.64 to take seventh in the 3000m.

WLC's relay teams also contributed to the scoring, as the 4x100m Relay team of junior Madelyn Vanderhoof (Watertown, Wis.), freshman Jaci Volp (Fremont, Wis.), sophomore Amelia Kelley (Appleton, Wis.), and freshman Lucy Luedtke (Marshfield, Wis.) placed fifth with a season-best time of 53.23, and the 4x400m Relay team of Luedtke, freshman Brooke Hodkiewicz (Oconto Falls, Wis.), Vanderhoof, and junior Madelyn Beyer (Appleton, Wis.) finished sixth in a season-best 4:20.61.

Additional personal-best performances came from junior Marin Schibbelhut (Onalaska, Wis.) in the 100m Hurdles (17.65), Luedtke in the 200m (28.14), Kelley in the 800m (2:35.00) and Javelin (23.85m), and freshman Audra Kopfer (Columbus, Wis.) in the Hammer (25.16m).

UW-Oshkosh won the 11-team meet with 188.16 points and three event titles.

On Friday at the Big Blue Alumni Invitational hosted by Millikin in Decatur, Illinois, Hodkiewicz won the 200m (28.74), placed seventh in the Long Jump (4.23m), and was 12th in the Javelin (19.47m). Her 200m and Long Jump marks were good for personal bests.

Wisconsin Lutheran will host the 2026 NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships next Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, at Raabe Stadium. The meet will mark the ninth time the Warriors have hosted the conference outdoor championships.
