The late Dr. Gary J. Greenfield served as the first full-time President of Wisconsin Lutheran College from 1975 until his retirement in 2003. Dr. Greenfield was part of the leadership team behind the launching of Warriors Athletics. In 1986-1987, Dr. Greenfield, along with the Board of Regents, called Paul Knueppel to serve as the first full-time athletic director. That same year, WLC was granted admission into the NAIA and Lake Michigan Conference. Dr. Greenfield championed efforts to build the Recreation Complex in 1990-1991, and was instrumental in persuading Milwaukee County to sell 26 acres of land that now is our Outdoor Athletic Complex. Rarely did a basketball game occur without Dr. Greenfield being there to cheer his student-athletes on to victory. Dr. Greenfield always served the college as a whole, but he allowed athletics to be an area of focus in the early years as a four-year institution, and without his leadership and guidance, Warriors Athletics would not be what it is today.
