The late Joel Mischke was associated with the Warriors baseball program for 13 of his 22 years of service to Wisconsin Lutheran College. When Mischke joined the college in the fall of 1988, he helped elevate the baseball program from club status to an intercollegiate varsity sport and served as head coach for six seasons (1989-1994). His teams from 1991-1993 each finished third in the Lake Michigan Conference, but entered the final day of the regular season with a chance to take the title. After a three-year break, Mischke returned to the dugout for the 1998 and 1999 seasons as head coach. He also served as head men's soccer coach for those two seasons. Mischke spent his final five seasons (2000-2004) with the team as an assistant on Brook Smith's coaching staff. The 2001 squad came within one game of their first NCAA Tournament berth with a 17-12 record – the program's first winning season. During his tenure at WLC, Mischke also served as director of admissions, dean of enrollment, and dean of student success.
